Making Sustainable Trade the Standard: Where Do I Start?

Description of Subject:

This presentation offered by ITC’s T4SD programme will focus on an introduction to
sustainability standards, their relevance, and introduction to the Standards Map.
Standards Map is a global public good solution, which is a neutral repository of
information on over 320 sustainability standards and initiatives. This practical session
will provide insights into how this tool can be leveraged to support local businesses in
Curacao in strategic sectors to promote sustainable international trade.

Bio Mrs Akshata Limaye Advisor, Sustainability Standards & Value Chains, ITC


Akshata Limaye is an India-qualified lawyer. She holds a master’s degree in international law
and economics from the World Trade Institute, University of Bern, Switzerland, where she
focused on international trade and investment law and policy.
Akshata has been working at the International Trade Centre (ITC) as an advisor on sustainability
standards and global value chains. She contributes to the development of the Standards Map
global repository of sustainability standards, codes of conduct, and audit protocols
(www.standardsmap.org). She works on research, projects, and events for awareness raising
about sustainability issues relating to international trade.

Background:

Established in 1964, International Trade Centre (ITC) is the joint trade for development agency
of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization. ITC’s work enables small businesses in
developing economies to become more competitive and connect to international markets for
trade and investment. The Trade for Sustainable Development (T4SD) programme at ITC is
dedicated to supporting businesses across the value chain, to implement inclusive and
sustainable business practices.
